Mixed fortunes for our pros
Steve Jackson (Seniors Championship) and Chris Grant (Essex Open Championship) had mixed results. Steve's first round was eventually called off due to heavy rain which meant playing 36 holes on day two. Unfortunately his back suffered a problem and he had to withdraw after one round. Chris played pretty well with scores of 74 and 71 (+3) to finish in the top 20.

This time it's uphill and downhill putting
Whilst on the course, we sometimes get friendly advice from our fellow playing partners regarding the line of our putts.
"It's uphill so hit the ball harder"
"Make sure you don't hit it too hard"
Let's take a putt length of 30 feet, straight uphill. Look at a spot in the region of three foot (for an example) past the hole and putt to that, even if you do not reach that area you can end up closer to the right distance by trying to achieve this. Then try it downhill by looking at something on the green (different shades of the green do the trick) three feet shorter. Why not practice on our putting green with a couple of tee pegs - one long and one short? The measurements are only a benchmark, but see if it works.
How to play South #2 - 128/105 yards (par-3)
A par-3 hole measuring only 128 yards and is the highest stroke index at Garon Park.
A good score is very achievable for all golfers and although there is a bunker on the right side, it's a poor shot that finds it. The only defensive is the green with a few slopes (especially left side) so concentrate on your putting (see above) and par is yours.
