We are introducing a biweekly Rules Quiz where we will set a rules question and the first person to come back with the answer and the rules number - i.e. Rule 5-2 (which it's not) - by email wins a FREE golf lesson from one of our PGA pros. There is only one catch - you can only win once just so quiz experts do not keep winning every time. Here's this week's rule:
A player hits his ball into the bunker. When the player arrives, he sees his ball resting against the bunker rake (which is placed in the bunker). As the player removes the rake, his ball rolls backwards...
What's the ruling? Submit your answer here.
The Open is being played at Royal Troon, Scotland, from the 14th to 17th July this year and our shop is going equipment mad. With a fully stocked shop, we are going Open bargain crazy, so keep your eyes peeled for what's happening.
This week saw Chris play in the East Region Championship at Essendon GC, Hertfordshire. Unfortunately the weather struck again, reducing the 54-hole event down to 18. In wet conditions, Chris carded a very good two-under-par which put him in 18th place (the winner was -8) and another pay cheque. Even at this pro level the standard is really good, so he is doing well.
If you can't play like the pros, at least look like one…
With summer now upon us (we hope), you'll soon be digging through your wardrobe trying to find a respectable polo shirt to wear. Inevitably you'll have a few that you bought 10 years ago which look tatty and old with the colour faded; then there's your favourite shirt from a few years back that you are trying so desperately hard to fit in to; and then you have the shirt with a few stains on but you wear under a jumper anyway as no-one will see.
Sound about right?
We have some lovely looking and great fitting shirts in-store at the moment - just take a look at the photos here.
You may have been in to take a look earlier on in the year, but we've recently received a new drop of clothing from all of our apparel brands. Not only that, but we regularly change around what we have on display so it is worth coming in for a browse if you haven't had a look in the last few weeks. There's bound to be a shirt or two that's right up your street.
So come and see us in-store, take a browse at the numerous collections we have, try on some shirts and look the part on the course this summer. Remember what they say:
Look good, feel great, play well...
A pre-shot routine is very important in maintaining a consistent golf swing. Setting up can take a little time, as proved by the tour pros, but the end result can be rewarding. Pictures one and two below how Chris going through his routine from lining up behind the ball first, to his address position knowing this will make him feel confident of a good, repeatable swing.
Picture three shows him in a different set-up position which means his swing is likely to change, causing inconsistency. Sometimes our mind set makes this difficult to do. For example: playing the last hole badly and thinking of that or other golfers chasing you behind. You can play quicker golf by other means, for instance leaving your trolley in the right place for the next hole, putting your glove on well advance of the tee shot, etc. But take your time on the set-up. It's so important.

South #8 - 152/112 yards (par-3)
A good, solid par-three with a tee shot being hit slightly downhill with a nice backdrop of silver birches beyond the green. A nice swing will find the putting surface but there is a bunker on left side and a large gorse bush front right to catch any errant approaches.
The defence of the green is the "buried elephant" back left and if the hole is behind this then getting the ball close with the first putt can be tricky. Par is very achievable.
