Callaway Demo Day
Another successful event was held at Garon Park on Friday, 5 August with all appointments filled. The clients were all very interested and in some way surprised with what actually suited their golf swings in the way of equipment - the driver was a big difference for most players. 75% of golfers purchased clubs at fantastic prices. The feedback since the day has been really good and our next one is with PING on Wednesday, 21 September from 1:00pm until 5:00pm. More details in the forthcoming newsletters.
Chris Grant on Tour
Chris has just competed in his first ever 36-hole Trainee Championship held at Bishops Stortford Golf Club in very firm and bouncy conditions. The wind was also up that day so it was not surprising that the winning score was 1-under-par (still very good though). Chris' game was not quite on fire with a nine-over-par finish for the tournament, leaving him in a respectable 13th place. Back to the practise tee for a better performance in his next event.
Swing tip of the week
Because of the location of Garon Park, we experience very firm and hard fairways in the summer due to its reputation of being the driest area in the country. As such, woods become more difficult to strike well. Playing a more lofted wood or even a hybrid is a good alternative. What happens with the wood sweeping into the ball is that it can "bounce" which causes a lower trajectory. With a more lofted wood you can play the ball further back in the stance, making sure that you strike the ball first. The ball flight will be lower, hence the more lofted club.
East #6 - 573/542 yards (par-5)
Our longest hole on the course sweeps in a half moon shape from left-to-right and is tree-lined all the way down to the green. The drive needs to be hit down the left side to avoid the fairway bunker to the right and also out of bounds.
The second shot demands accuracy as well as length with a fairway wood. The approach on to the green is dependent on the pin position; if it's on the bottom right tier you can attack the flag with no bunkers to tangle with (right-side bunker has been removed), but the pin on the top left is completely different shot with three pot bunkers to carry into a much smaller landing area.
If you're scoring well, playing into the lower half and putting up the tier is the sensible play.
