Chris on Tour - The season is drawing to a close but Chris still has one more major tournament left to play. The prestigious East Anglian Open is being played at the Rayleigh Club over the next two days. I'm sure he will have a great finish to his first year playing in the pro ranks - we will let you know how he fares next week.
PING Demo Day - Fittings with the PING expert are now full, but you can still come along today (Wed 21 Sep) and try the fabulous clubs on offer - it might be the answer to your game!
Ladies Rules Day - We are now full for the practical rules day on Monday, 26 September at 2pm. The nine-hole ladies who are attending, please remember to bring golf shoes and waterproof clothing (just in case), but there is no need for golf clubs.

Swing Tip of the Week
The putter is the one club in the bag that does not generally have a specific distance attached to it. A wedge may be 100 yards, a 7-iron 150 yards or a driver at 250 yards, for example. However, with a putter, the first putt on every green will probably be a different length. So that means you - the golfer - have to vary your stroke.
Sometimes the golfer can hit the putt "harder" or "softer" according to the type of putt (uphill, downhill, long and short), but this can make an inconsistency in the length you are aiming for. Our advice is to try and work on a putting stroke length with a constant pace - "tick-tock" was the old saying!
Another tip is to use a measuring stick in line with the hole but 25 feet away. Put the ball at the 24 inch mark (pic 1) and then make a backstroke of 12 inches (pic 2), following this with a forward stroke of 18 inches (pic 3). This will help to maintain the pace of your putt. See where the ball finishes and if it doesn't make 25 foot then simply change the length of stroke, but not the speed.
I hope this is not too confusing but just come in and ask how it works if you're unsure.
East #9 - 360 yards (par-4)
Although only a medium size length par-4, number nine on the East course is a real test. The tee shot is now driven between mounding on both sides of the fairway and at 231 yards, the pond is the natural line off the tee. Club selection is all important (driver could be too much) but if you lay-up too short it will leave a demanding second shot over the water hazard which you have to go over! The green is lovely with just the right amount of slope at the front with a long narrow strip going to the back. It also is double green sharing with West #9 so you can hit your second shot 30 yards to the right and still have a putt! So in conclusion not too much off the tee, a lot more with the second shot and don't be too far away from the hole to three putt.
